Poland captain Robert Lewandowski has said Polish footballers have learned their lesson after some of them were fined for holding a party at a training camp between World Cup qualifying games.

“Each of us makes mistakes, because we are only humans,” Lewandowski said, adding: “What we do during training and how we prepare for games is the most important and our performance was not the issue.”

According to media reports, some Poland team members broke regulations when they held a party during a pre-match training camp, keeping other players up at night.

Some media outlets said they drank beer and played cards all night.

The team’s manager, Adam Nawałka, said on Sunday that some Polish footballers would be fined over their antics in October.

“This was the first time it’s happened and the players will get a second chance,” Nawałka said.

“But if this is repeated, I don’t see that we can continue working together.”

Nawałka said that more than two players were involved and that the money from the fines would be donated to charity.
