Poland's Stoch first in ski jump World Cup comp

Poland's Kamil Stoch has won a ski jumping World Cup competition in Zakopane, in southern Poland, maintaining his top spot on the leader board.

With a total of 287.4 points, Stoch came ahead of Germany's Andreas Wellinger (285.8) and Richard Freitag (284.2).

Polish President Andrzej Duda, who personally congratulated Stoch in Zakopane, said the Polish ski jumper is a mentally strong competitor.

"He is magnificent, and has brought us joy yet again,” Duda said.

Poland's Piotr Żyła came sixth, Dawid Kubacki came eighth, Maciej Kot 12th, Jan Ziobro 14th and Stefan Hula 24th.

According to the tournament's organizers, more than 23,000 fans turned out to watch the jumpers. (vb)
