Poland's captain Robert Lewandowski made the most of a free-kick after a foul by Montenegran defender Stefan Savic, scoring the first goal of the match in its 40th minute.
Montenegro tried to put pressure on Poland in the second half of the match and forward Stefan Mugosa evened the score with a goal in the 63rd minute.
But the Polish squad recovered its lead with a goal by Łukasz Piszczek in the 82nd minute.
With thirteen points after four wins, a draw and no losses in the qualifiers, Poland leads Group E, which also includes Montenegro, Denmark, Romania, Armenia and Kazakhstan.
The highest-scoring teams in each of nine groups in the qualifying round are guaranteed to play at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. (vb/pk)
