The decision was taken in Montreal, Canada, where Poland’s Minister of Sport Witold Bańka and Katowice Mayor Marcin Krupa had pressed Poland’s case to host the event.

Bańka said it will be in Poland that key decisions determining the global fight against doping will be made.

The Polish sports ministry said that new World Anti-Doping Agency authorities will be selected during the conference.

Krupa wrote on Facebook: "We’ve got it, this is a big success for Katowice and Poland."

Katowice will host about 2,000 officials from all over the world engaged in the fight against doping in sport.

The 2019 World Conference will be the fifth event of its kind, following those held in Lausanne (Switzerland) in February 1999; Copenhagen (Denmark) in March 2003; Madrid (Spain) in November 2007; and Johannesburg (South Africa) in November 2013.
