Sunday’s game in the northern city of Gdańsk was a consolation win for Poles, who finished fourth in their group and will not play in January’s championships in Croatia.

Nevertheless, the restructured Polish squad have given fans hope for the future after new coach Piotr Przybecki took over.

Przybecki recently replaced Talant Duyshebaev, who offered his resignation after a string of poor performances during the European qualifiers.

Duyshebaev coached the Polish team from February 2016. The squad just missed a podium spot at the Rio Olympics last year and took 17th place in the world championships in France in January.
