Tennis: Poland’s Linette loses in first round at Birmingham

Poland’s Magda Linette was beaten 5: 7, 5: 7 on Tuesday by China’s Zhang Shuai in the first round of the WTA Birmingham Classic grass-court tournament in Britain.

Linette is 75th in the WTA ranking, while her opponent is 31st.
In the doubles competition, Poland’s Alicja Rosolska and her partner, Japan’s Nao Hibino, were eliminated in the first round.
Polish tennis star Agnieszka Radwańska has pulled out of the Birmingham tournament, saying she had a viral infection.
