Chess success for Poles

Polish chess players on Monday won the bronze medal at the World Team Championship in Russia, their first ever at such an event.

In the ninth and final round the Poles were beaten 1.5: 2.5 by China, which won the World Chess Federation championships. Russia finished second.

The Polish women’s team came sixth, with Russia and China taking the two top slots in the women’s championship.

The tournament took place in the Western Siberian town of Khanty-Mansiysk.
