Poland’s Rafał Majka out of Tour de France after crash

Poland’s Rafał Majka has withdrawn from the Tour de France cycling race after a crash during which he suffered heavy bruising.

"It's hard to breathe because of the pain," said Majka. "We had to make a wise decision bearing in mind my health and the rest of the season."

Majka was injured in a crash on Sunday during the stage to Chambery, south-eastern France.

He reached the finish line after losing more than half an hour. He was then taken directly to hospital. Doctors found he had not suffered any fractures.
