Football: Poland fall to no.6 in FIFA ranking
PR dla Zagranicy
Poland's national football squad has fallen one notch in a new FIFA ranking, down from its highest-ever fifth spot.
Germany have taken over the no.1 slot, followed by Brazil and European champions Portugal.
Poland were crushed 0:4 away by Denmark earlier this month in a qualifier that knocked the wind out of the national squad’s sails in its 2018 World Cup campaign.
But the Poles then regained their hopes of glory at next year’s football fest in Russia by beating Kazakhstan 3:0 at home on 4 September.
Poland play Armenia on 5 October and Montenegro on 8 October.
Poland’s previous no.5 spot in the FIFA table was the best result for the Polish team since the world football governing body’s ranking was launched in 1992. Poland's lowest place was 78th, in 2013.
The ranking factors in the final score of games played over the past four years, and whether the match was friendly or competitive, the rank of the opponent and other variables.
