The Pole, who is ranked 13th by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), on Monday saw off world No. 28 Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the WTA Premier 5 tournament in Wuhan, China.

She will now take on the winner of a match between Australia’s Daria Gavrilova and Germany’s Julia Goerges.

On Sunday, another Polish player, Magda Linette, advanced to the second round of the Wuhan Open after beating WTA No. 31 Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 7-5, 6-4.

Linette, who is ranked 74th by the WTA, will now play world No. 50 Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic for a place in the tournament’s round of 16.

Before getting to play Kontaveit in the first round, Linette had to get past WTA No. 202 Lu Jing-Jing of China in the second round of qualifying for the tournament's main draw. The Pole won 6-7(0), 6-4, 6-1 on Saturday. This marked the first time she secured a spot in the main draw of the Wuhan tournament. (gs/pk)
