British Formula One team Williams should be trying to convince Polish racer Robert Kubica to join them, former CEO of the Formula One Group Bernie Ecclestone has said, according to the onet.pl website.

Citing Italian sports journalist Roberto Chinchero, onet.pl wrote that Kubica recently performed well in a secret test race for Williams, and that another test was expected next Tuesday.

Onet.pl cited Ecclestone as saying that it is not Kubica who should be trying to get behind the wheel of a Williams car, but Williams who should be trying to secure Kubica's services.

Ecclestone said that, had it not been for Kubica's crash, he would be world champion, adding that Kubica could come back from an injury “stronger than ever,” the onet.pl website said.

The Polish driver competed for Renault in Formula One in 2010, scoring three podiums in his season with the French manufacturer, before an injury sustained in a rallying crash in 2011 forced him to put his F1 career on hold.

Ecclestone said that, post-injury, Kubica could be a more “mentally” aggressive driver, onet.pl wrote.
