Both teams had a number of shots at goal. Poland's best came in the ninth minute when Uruguay's Rodrigo Bentancur almost netted an own goal.

Polish coach Adam Nawałka said Uruguay “basically did not set up any threatening plays”.

Poland played without star striker Robert Lewandowski, centre back Michał Pazdan and right-back Łukasz Piszczek, who were off with injuries.

Uruguay was also missing some of its star players, including striker Luis Suarez and captain Diego Godin.

The match was the last ever with Poland's representative team for goalie Artur Boruc, who received a standing ovation as he left the pitch in the 44th minute of play.

It was his 65th ever match with the representative squad, a record among Polish representative goal keepers, and he wore the number 65 on his jersey and the captain's band to mark the occasion.

Poland plays another friendly, with Mexico in the northern city of Gdańsk, on Monday. (vb)
