Britain’s Williams Formula 1 team has denied media reports that it has signed up Poland’s Robert Kubica as its second driver.
A Williams spokesman said that Polish media had been “exaggerating", according to Poland’s onet.pl website.
All reports that a contract had been signed with Kubica should be treated as rumours, onet.pl cited the spokesman as saying.
Kubica competed for Renault in Formula 1 in 2010, scoring three podiums in his season with the French manufacturer, before an injury sustained in a rallying crash in 2011 forced him to put his F1 career on hold.
Onet.pl reported that Kubica would test a Williams car after this Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will end the 2017 racing season.
French cable television channel Canal+ reported earlier this month that Kubica would sign with Williams and return to Formula 1 racing in 2018 after a six-year hiatus. The channel said Kubica would partner with Canada's Lance Stroll.
Kubica has already been tested by Williams at Budapest's Hungaroring circuit, according to public broadcaster Polish Radio.
