Polish ex-weightlifting champ wins fifth consecutive MMA match

Former weightlifting world-record holder Szymon Kołecki has beaten Michał Orkowski in Legionowo, central Poland, in his fifth time in the ring competing in mixed martial arts (MMA).
Despite some tough moments in the initial minutes of the match, Kołecki won by technical knock out in the first round. His earlier four bouts all ended in knock-outs against seasoned opponents.
Kołecki, who formerly held both world and European weightlifting championship titles, withdrew from active sports in 2012 to head up the Polish Weightlifting Federation.
The 36-year-old resigned from the post in August 2016 and debuted in MMA competitions in March 2017. (ss-vb)
