Ahead of his final game this year, Lewandowski, who plays for Bayern Munich and also captains Poland’s national squad, boasts 53 goals in all club and international appearances, as many as Real Madrid’s Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Argentinian ace Lionel Messi.

Breathing down their necks is Paris Saint-Germain’s Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, with 52 goals in 2017.

0.98 goals per match

With a total of 54 games played, Lewandowski boasts an average of 0.98 goals per game this year, and, among players in top European leagues, only Harry Kane from England's Tottenham Hotspur club is better, with 50 goals in 50 matches.

Ronaldo has a ratio of 0.9 goals per game and Messi has 0.83 so far this calendar year.

Lewandowski’s Bayern take on their domestic arch-rival Borussia Dortmund in a German Cup fixture on home turf on Wednesday evening.

Lewandowski has scored 15 goals in the German Bundesliga this season and leads the table among the division’s top scorers, ahead of Borussia Dortmund's prolific Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has found the net 13 times this season.

The Polish star striker ended the previous Bundesliga season as the division’s second-best scorer on 30 goals, one less than Aubameyang.
