Linette next takes on the winner of a match between Russia’s Daria Kasatkina and Slovakia’s Anna Karolína Schmiedlová.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Magdalena Fręch was beaten by Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro 5-7, 3-6 in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday.

The 20-year-old Pole was making her debut in a Grand Slam tournament.

Poland’s Agnieszka Radwańska, seeded 26th, will play her opening match at the Australian Open on Tuesday, taking on Czech Kristýna Plíšková.
