Ski jumping: Poland’s Stoch reclaims World Cup lead ahead of Olympics

Poland’s Kamil Stoch on Sunday reclaimed the ski-jumping World Cup lead after a second-place finish at a competition in Willingen, Germany.

Another Pole, Piotr Żyła, took third spot in the Willingen event, held just days ahead of the winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Johann Andre Forfang of Norway won Sunday’s World Cup competition, the last before the Olympics, with jumps of 147.5 and 144.5 metres, outperforming Stoch’s 145.5 and 140.5 metres.
Two other Poles, Dawid Kubacki and Maciej Kot, also finished in the top 10 at Willingen on Sunday, adding to fans’ hopes ahead of the approaching Olympics.
Stoch, a two-time Sochi Winter Olympics champion and the winner of the prestigious Four Hills Tournament, collected a special “Willingen 5” bonus of EUR 25,000 for executing the five best jumps of the weekend.
Kubacki placed third and Stoch finished fourth at the weekend’s first competition in Willingen on Saturday.
The Pyeongchang Games kick off on Friday, February 9, with the first ski jumping medals up for grabs a day later.
