Dubbed the Double Challenge, the run is to take him through the Sahara desert in Africa, the Gobi desert in Asia, the Atacama desert in South America and the polar wastes of the Arctic.

The project is being organised by the Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland. Its representative, Weronika Chrapońska-Chmielewska, has told the Polish Press Agency that the name Double Challenge reflects the sports and social aspects of the project.

Rybiec has several marathons to his credit, in Warsaw, Athens and Rome, as well as several long-distance mountain runs.

He is determined to complete the Four Deserts Run by the end of the year. All the funds raised will go to the Warsaw-based St Christopher’s Oncological Hospice. (mk/pk)
