Polish weightlifter wins gold at European championships

Polish weightlifter Arkadiusz Michalski on Sunday won the gold in the 105 kg category at the European Weightlifting Championships in Bucharest, Romania.

Michalski lifted 175 kg in the snatch and 221 kg in the clean and jerk.

Second place went to Bulgaria’s Georgi Shikov, while Austria's Sargis Martirosjan came third.

Michalski's medal was the sixth for Poland at the championships in Bucharest.

Kacper Kłos came second in the 85 kg category, and Łukasz Grela third in the 94 kg category.

In the women’s events, Joanna Łochowska won gold and defended her title in the 53 kg category. Patrycja Piechowiak took the bronze in the 69 kg and Kinga Kaczmarczyk bronze in the 90 kg category.
