The incident took place in the 70th minute of a game between LKS Ciechów and Piast Lutynia.

A fight erupted in the stands after a member of the away team fouled a player, injuring him.

Shortly afterwards, spectators leapt onto the pitch while one LKS Ciechów supporter attacked a Piast Lutynia football player with a sharp object.

“There are no words for what happened in our stadium today,” the local sports club in Lutynia said in a statement released on a social networking website.

“This had nothing to do with healthy rivalry. A crime was committed, our friend... could have even lost his life,” the club added.

Police were called to the scene. The perpetrator was not arrested, however, as fans of the away team fled the stadium. (aba/vb)
