Omullo clocked a time of 2:11.17 to finish ahead of a field of almost 5,000 competitors in sunny weather on Sunday. It was his third marathon victory in the Polish capital, after two prior wins in the autumn PZU Warsaw Marathon.

Kenya’s Felix Kimutai, who won the Orlen Warsaw Marathon last year, finished second on Sunday, with a time of 2:11.41, and Herpasa Negasa Kitesa of Ethiopia was third with 2:11.46.

Yared Shegumo, an Ethiopian-born runner who competed for Poland in the Rio Olympics, was the fastest Pole, finishing the race sixth in 2:13.53.

As the race doubled up as the Polish men's championship, Shegumo secured the title of national champion in the marathon.

Mariusz Giżyński was the second-fastest Polish man, clocking in at 2:15.17, to finish eighth overall, just ahead of Arkadiusz Gardzielewski, who came ninth and was the third-fastest Polish runner with a time of 2:15.57.

Belarus’ Nastassia Ivanova was the fastest woman, clocking in at 2:28.03, ahead of Ethiopia’s Azmera Abreha with 2:28.07, and Poland’s Izabela Trzaskalska with 2:32.26.

Two large marathons are held on the streets of Warsaw every year, one sponsored by fuel giant Orlen in April and another named after state insurance company PZU in September.
