The friendly on Monday in Opole, southern Poland, followed a 1-3 defeat to Canada on Saturday in a match that marked Heynen’s debut as coach.

The Polish squad take on South Korea on Friday in the southern city of Katowice in the new Volleyball Nations League.

The league is a new idea from the FIVB, the sport’s international governing body.

In September, Poland will face off against Bulgaria, Iran, Cuba, Finland and Puerto Rico in the men’s volleyball world championships in Bulgaria and Italy.

The Polish team won the world championships in 2014 under French coach Stephane Antiga.

Heynen, a Belgian, has taken over as Poland coach from Ferdinando De Giorgi, an Italian who was fired after Poland crashed out of the European championships last year.
