Tennis: Poland’s Kubot enters US Open doubles semifinals

Poland’s Łukasz Kubot and his Brazilian doubles partner Marcelo Melo have reached the semifinal stage of the US Open tennis tournament in New York.

The Polish-Brazilian duo on Tuesday beat Americans Austin Krajicek and Tennys Sandgren 6-4, 6-2.

Kubot and Melo were last year named the men’s doubles team of the year by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Meanwhile, Poland’s Alicja Rosolska and Croatia’s Nikola Mektić have advanced to the semifinals of the mixed doubles competition at the US Open, following their victory over Romania’s Raluca Olaru and Croatia’s Franko Skugor 7-6, 6-2.
