Tennis: Poland’s Rosolska loses in US Open mixed doubles final

Poland’s Alicja Rosolska and Croatia’s Nikola Mektić were on Saturday beaten in the final of the mixed doubles competition at the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament.

Rosolska and Mektić were defeated 6-2, 3-6, 9-11 by Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States and Britain’s Jamie Murray in the championship match in New York.

It was the first time Rosolska, 32, had made the final of a Grand Slam tournament.

The Polish-Croatian duo beat China’s Zhang Shuai and Australia’s John Peers 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 in a semifinal on Wednesday.
