Poland’s Adam Kownacki has chalked up a career-boosting victory over US former world champion Charles Martin in a heavyweight boxing match at Barclays Center in New York.

Pundits said it was Kownacki’s most important win to date. The slugfest on Saturday had the audience on the edge of their seats in the last two rounds.

Kownacki won on points by a unanimous judges’ decision. It was the 18th professional victory for the undefeated Pole, whose star is rising.

Nicknamed "Babyface," Kownacki was born in Poland and moved to the United States with his family when he was seven. He is currently rated No. 13 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

He made the headlines last summer when he defeated former world title challenger and fellow Pole Artur Szpilka, stopping him in the fourth round.
