The Poles take on Portugal at home on October 11 in the group stage of the UEFA Nations League, a new competitive football format in Europe.

Ronaldo did not play for Portugal against Italy in September. The decision aimed to help him adapt to his new club, Poland’s PAP news agency reported on Thursday.

Ronaldo, 33, in the summer transferred from Real Madrid to Juventus.

Both Poland’s match against Portugal and a October 14 Nations League game against Italy will be played in the southern Polish city of Chorzów.

Poland football manager Jerzy Brzęczek on Monday released a list of 27 players called up for the two upcoming encounters.
