The event, hosted by the Łódź University of Technology on Friday and Saturday, attracted around 400 competitors, both women and men, from 13 countries, according to organisers.

Athletes from Poland, Australia, Belarus, China, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Mongolia, Russia, the United States, Thailand, Taiwan and Hungary strutted their stuff in front of fans and judges, competing in a variety of cheerleading events.

Following provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee, cheerleading is expected to make its debut as an Olympic sport at the 2024 Games in Paris, organisers said.

The next World University Cheerleading Championship is due to be held in South Korea in 2020.
