Polish weightlifter wins bronze in world championship

Poland’s Arkadiusz Michalski has won a bronze medal in the 109 kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships in Turkmenistan’s capital, Ashgabat.

Michalski lifted a total of 403 kg – 175 kg in the snatch and 228 kg in the clean and jerk – in Friday’s event.

Armenia’s Simon Martirosyan won the world champion title, having beaten a world record after lifting 240 kg in the clean and jerk. China’s Zhe Yang came third in the category.

Michalski won Poland’s first medal at this year’s world weightlifting championships.
