The Polish national football squad on Thursday lost 0-1 to the Czech Republic in a friendly match that added to the team’s woes under its new manager.

Jakub Jankto slid home the game’s only goal for the Czech team in the 52nd minute.

Poland fans were treated to a disheartening display of lucklustre football. Despite a strong line-up, the Polish players failed to deliver in front of a home crowd of around 35,000 in the northern city of Gdańsk.

Poland star striker and captain Robert Lewandowski extended his goalless streak while on international duty to seven games. At one point, he failed to make contact with the ball and missed what looked like a sure scoring opportunity from inside the box to an empty net.

The clash marked the Poles' third defeat, in addition to two draws, under manager Jerzy Brzęczek, who took over after the national squad’s early exit from the World Cup in Russia.

Poland will on Tuesday play their last match of 2018, taking on Portugal in the Nations League.
