Piotr Suchenia, a resident of the northern Polish port city of Gdynia, braved freezing temperatures and harsh conditions to finish the annual race in 3 hours, 49 minutes and 18 seconds.

He was almost a half-hour faster than the runner-up, Australia’s Isaac Thyer.

Suchenia last year won the North Pole Marathon on the frozen ice of the Arctic Ocean, the world’s coldest long-distance race.

In December last year, Joanna Mędraś, from the northern city of Gdańsk, became the first Polish woman to win the Antarctic Ice Marathon, after braving extreme conditions including freezing winds and temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius.
