France’s Stephane Peterhansel, a 13-time Dakar champion, on Wednesday claimed victory in the third leg of the race. The route, stretching from San Juan de Marcona to Arequipa, Peru, totals 798 km.

Another Polish contender, Aron Domżała, came eighth in Wednesday’s challenge.

The 41st Dakar Rally loop starting and finishing in Lima, Peru, is 5,000 km long. Over 500 racers are taking part in the ten-stage marathon, among them 11 Poles.
