Poland’s Alicja Rosolska and Japan’s Eri Hozumi have made it through to the second round of the women’s doubles competition at the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in Melbourne.

The Pole and the Japanese beat Germany’s Andrea Petkovic and Puerto Rico’s Monica Puig 7-5, 6-4 in their first-round match on Thursday.
Up next for Rosolska and Hozumi at the Australian Open were Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus and Taylor Townsend of the United States.
Meanwhile, Poland’s Iga Świątek bowed out of the women's singles competition at the Australian Open after losing to Italy’s Camila Giorgi in the second round on Thursday.
Poland’s Łukasz Kubot and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos advanced to the second round of the Australian Open men’s doubles after beating Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene and Germany’s Maximilian Marterer 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 on Wednesday.
