Kubot and Świątek beat their countrywoman Alicja Rosolska and her Croatian mixed doubles partner Nikola Mektić 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 in their first-round match in the early hours of Sunday Polish time.

Poland’s Kubot earlier advanced to the third round of the Australian Open men’s doubles, partnering with Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos.

Kubot and Zeballos beat France’s Fabrice Martin and Jeremy Chardy 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in their second-round encounter in Melbourne on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Rosolska crashed out of the Australian Open women’s doubles together with Japan’s Eri Hozumi on Saturday.

Rosolska and Hozumi were eliminated after losing 2-6, 6-7 in the second round to Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus and Taylor Townsend of the United States.

Poland’s Świątek bowed out of the women's singles competition at the Australian Open after losing to Italy’s Camila Giorgi in the second round on Thursday.

Two other Poles, Kamil Majchrzak and Hubert Hurkacz, both lost their first-round men's singles matches in Melbourne early last week.
