Poland’s Michał Burczyński has secured gold in the ice-boating world championships in the United States.

On Sunday, Burczyński won two races at the event at Indian Lake in Ohio.

A day later he notched up two more wins, as well as a third and a fifth place.

Those results have secured him the gold, even though one more race was to be held in the championships on Tuesday.

As of Tuesday morning, two other Poles, Jarosław Radzki and Tomasz Zakrzewski, were respectively second and third in the overall classification.

Burczyński won the ice-boating world championships in 2006 and 2010.

The Polish Yachting Association was quoted by the PAP news agency as saying that due to problems with transporting equipment by air, all the Poles competing in the event had to use borrowed gear.
