The 22-year-old Polish player next faces sixth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan in the men’s singles competition at Indian Wells.

Hurkacz, who is world No. 67, outshone Nishikori at the Dubai Open tournament earlier this year, winning 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Magda Linette has crashed out of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells after losing to Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands, 4-6, 1-6, in the second round.
