Polish tennis star Agnieszka Radwanska has jumped up the WTA Tour rankings to sixth position, marking an all-time career best for the 22-year-old player.
Her advance from eighth to sixth place was cemented after reaching the quarter-finals in the Australian Open last week.
The ultimate winner in Melbourne, Belarusian ace Victoria Azarenka - who defeated Radwanska in the quarter-finals – is now World No.1, displacing Danish player Caroline Wozniacki.
Agnieszka Radwanska won three major international tournaments in 2011, and she is currently the eighth highest earning player in women's tennis.
Meanwhile, Radwanska's younger sister Urszula has moved up from 99th to 85th position in the WTA rankings, having made it to the second round in Melbourne this month.
The siblings have been drawn against each other in first round matches four times in recent months, a factor which has frustrated the pair.
Thankfully, this did not occur in Melbourne, allowing both players to move up the WTA rankings. (nh)
