Pres. Duda won't encourage UK Poles to return home

Polish President Andrzej Duda, on a visit to the UK on Monday said he does not seek to encourage Poles to return to their country because, in his words, the economic situation is “still unfavourable.”

"I do not have the courage to say: come back to your country. Are there more jobs in your localities, and is it easier to do business, is the burden smaller? I cannot see such changes. Polish development is mainly in the statistics," Duda told Media Polonia agency.

After the official part of the meeting with over 200 representatives of Polish organisations in the UK, Duda talked with reporters from local Polish media.

"We see in Poland progressive social stratification disappearing and producing after 1989 a middle class, but people have also become impoverished. This is a process that must be stopped and even reversed," he said. (jh/rk)
