Talking about the role of the Visegrad Group, Mr Sikorski (pictured left) said that its four members, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary “have trade with Germany, three times Germany’s trade with Russia, and the political voting power in the EU – jointly – the same as France and Germany jointly.”

Asked whether the Visegrad Group members can speak in one voice in view of the differences between them, Mr Sikorski said “we should be realistic. We are not a union within the union and we don’t agree on everything. Slovakia is in the euro zone, the Czech Republic is notably more eurosceptic, it didn’t sign up to the fiscal pact, so we can synchronise and advocate joint positions on the things that we do agree upon and there are plenty of those.”
