  • Is the new budget proposal for 2013 too optimistic? Report by Slawek Szefs.
PM Donald Tusk presented the outline of an updated budget proposal for 2013. Will the income balance the spending? Slawek Szefs talks to economist Stanislaw Gomulka.

The new budget proposal, presented to the media on Wednesday, projects a 35.6 billion zloty (roughly 8.9 billion euro) deficit and a 2.2 percent economic growth rate.

Government's dedication to cutting the budget deficit gained praise from European institutions back at the beginning of the year. However the enthusiasm over Poland's perceived immunity to the global economic crisis has been cooling down over the last month.

"In its main provisions, this budget secures the financing of various social and public needs at a similar level as in 2012,"

the PM told the press during the Wednesday briefing.

Economists warn, that the revised provisions might still be too optimistic. Slawek Szefs examines the numbers and consults the chances ahead of the new proposal with Business Centre Club expert, Professor Stanislaw Gomulka.
