Scheduled for 20 October 2013, the opening may be postponed by no more than several weeks.

In an exclusive interview for Polish Radio’s English Service, director of the project worth up to 20 million euro, Waldemar Dąbrowski, says that the whole building is ready and the minor problems relate only to the technological aspects of installing the core exhibition.

He reporter Michal Kubicki that the Holocaust will be only one chapter of the narrative, the idea being “to tell the story of one thousand years of Jewish presence on Polish lands”.

The planned Museum is to be built on the site of the former Warsaw Ghetto, but it will focus not only on the Holocaust and Nazi occupation. The aim is to present the over thousand years of Jewish history and culture in Poland.

"Nowadays neither the Polish nor the international public are fully aware of what a great role Polish Jews have played in the nation's history. And many no longer know that Warsaw was once the city with the biggest Jewish population in the world," says the museum's web site. (pg)
