Prime Minister Donald Tusk met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and the prime ministers of the Visegrad Group, including Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

A Visegrad defence group will be formed by 2016 comprising of 3,000 soldiers, said PM Tusk.

Defence ministers of Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia signed a letter of intent to form a joint fighting unit, Michal Kubicki reports.

According to Central Europe analyst Dariusz Kałan at the Polish Institute of International Affairs, the signing of a letter of intent on the formation of a battle group, to be a part of the European Union Rapid Reaction Force, is the first step in reinforcing military cooperation in Central Europe.

President Hollande said any deepening of collective defence must be made within a strategic vision adopted at an EU summit later this year. (pg)
