In the show this week: Ukraine - what happened and why, who are the heroes and villains and what will happen next?

/

Presented by Peter Gentle

In the studio this week: political columnist and blogger for the UK Guardian and WBJ in Warsaw Remi Adekoya, freelance journalist Aleksander Nowacki and senior Polish Radio foreign correspondent Jarek Kociszewski.

After the most dramatic, and destabilizing, events in central and eastern Europe since the collapse of the communist bloc in 1989, we ask: Is the ex-Soviet state's basket-case economy the fundamental problem the country faces; what role will Russia play in Ukraine's future; did the EU help or hinder the situation; and was the fall of the old regime due to a grassroots revolution, as many in the West present it as, or a coup, as Russia is arguing?

All that and more in Dateline Warsaw - where journalists chew over this week's top news stories.

This programme was recorded on Friday afternoon, before President Putin proposed military intevention in Crimea.
