Gynecologists - a 'necessary evil'?
One-in-four young women in Poland shun check ups at the gynecologist, a new study shows, risking forgoing early detection of a whole range of health issues, from sexually transmitted diseases to cancers.
Young women are brushing off reproductive health issues citing shame and fear, the latest study by the Ponton Group finds, with many regarding visiting a doctor as a 'necessary evil'.
“It’s because of stereotypes, the very old, traditional belief that women really should not have sex and that’s why they shouldn’t go to the [gynecologist], because these doctors deal with sex life,” Paulina Wawrzyńczyk from the Ponton Group told our reporter Alicja Baczyńska.
