Warsaw gears up for Rising anniversary

On 1 August 1944, the aapital of Poland saw the beginning of what was to become one of the most important events in the modern history of Poland - the Warsaw Rising.

The official commemorations marking the event's 70th anniversary start on Tuesday with celebrations at the "Żołnierzom Żywiciela" stone in Warsaw as well as the opening of the exhibition "The Warsaw Rising of 1944" by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck, in Berlin.

As Warsaw is getting ready to pay tribute to the heroes of the tragic event, reporter Danuta Isler spoke to Jerzy Mirecki, an architect who is the author of the book called "The Children of 1944" published recently in Poland.
