  • ‘Small plasters on a huge wound’ - John Beauchamp reports on the government’s latest plan to help families and pensioners.
Speaking in parliament on Wednesday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk laid out his grand plan to help pensioners and families, although some believe it is too little too late.

With just over a year to go until the general election in Poland, the government laid out its plans for the rest of its four-year term, pledging more for pensioners and families, as John Beauchamp reports.

Speaking on child benefits, Prime Minister Tusk said that every family will be able to claim more tax rebates and the system will be completely overhauled, as until now, only parents with high income tax returns had been able to fully benefit from the system.

“This is a very important change. Some 52 percent of taxpayers with three children will be able to take advantage of this massive change, that’s some 1.2 million families,” PM Tusk said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Law and Justice heavyweight Mariusz Blaszczak lambasted the government plan, saying that “I can only say of these proposals that they are small plasters over a huge wound.”
