While Prime Minister Donald Tusk prepares to take up his post as President of the European Council at the beginning of December, formalities are now under way for the installation of the next government.

As John Beauchamp reports, even though Sejm Parliamentary Speaker Ewa Kopacz has the formal backing of the ruling coalition as well as the President, there are still a number of hurdles which need to be crossed.

Asked on her new cabinet, Kopacz said that she wants to first highlight priorities and then choose the right people for the job. In general, however, the ruling Civic Platform-Polish Peasants’ Party coalition will continue the policies already set in motion by Tusk’s government.

“I am sure that there will be a continuation of what we already started [...] as well as projects which have been lasting for a number of years, but there will be some new elements too,” she said.
