  • UK playing trade catch up with Poland. John Beauchamp speaks to Michael Dembinski, Chief Advisor at the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce.
With 25 years since the end of communism and 21 years since the opening of the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw, economic and trade relations have gained ground, although a lot still has to be done in terms the UK’s trade balance with Poland.

Our reporter John Beauchamp spoke to Michael Dembinski, Chief Advisor at the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce, about where trade stands now and how the Polish market is viewed by the UK.

“For the last two years – 2012-2013 – the UK ended those years with a GBP 4 billion trade deficit in goods with Poland,” Dembinski tells us.

While Polish companies “will bite your arm off” to do trade in the UK, British companies are more reserved, saying that “Poland is a poor country” which can’t afford British products.

The BPCC is now trying to change that stereotype, as the Polish economy is growing faster than the UK’s, and the zloty exchange rate makes British good that much more competitive, according to Dembinski.
