LNG adding to energy independence

The floating LNG terminal which docked in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda at the start of the week will contribute substantially to securing energy independence from Russia's Gazprom, say experts.

'Nomen est omen', the South Korean built vessel which has the LNG installations on board, carries the symbolic name of 'Independence'.

The terminal will be commercially operational by the start of next year.

"President Putin would have a far greater problem were it Poland to have completed the construction of its gas port first. Still, the [Lithuanian] terminal will undoubtedly help neighboring Baltic states in their negotiations with the Russian side,” Mateusz Walewski, senior economist at PricewaterhouseCoopers, told Polish Radio.
