While the popularity of Beaujolais Nouveau in Poland is nowhere near Japan for instance, or the United States or Germany, Poles are still 14th on the list of Beaujolais Nouveau consumers - what may be somewhat of a surprise in a country of very moderate wine drinkers, to say the least.

As Elżbieta Krajewska reports, A new report by KPMG on the alcohol market in Poland shows that the sale of wine in Poland has increased by 50 percent since 2004.

However, Poland is still way behind the rest of Europe. In 2013, the average Pole bought a total of 5.5 litres of wine per year, while neighbouring Slovaks bought 19.1 litres, Czechs - 21.4 litres, and there is no comparison to consumers such as Britons, not to mention Italians - more than 44 litres.
