The Polish agricultural industry is angered following news on Monday that the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority ordered a nation-wide inspection of Polish food products.

As John Beauchamp reports, the move has caused a backlash at Poland’s agriculture and economy ministries, with tempers flaring over the treatment of Polish goods in the country’s southern neighbour.

On hearing the news that the Czechs have decided to heighten controls on Polish foodstuffs, Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki told Polish Radio that Polish producers should fight for their rights in the Czech Republic, going so far as to sue if need be.

“In the case of dishonest claims pertaining to Polish foodstuffs, I expect Polish processing organisations and producers to take the Czechs to court if need be [...] and if there were a few court verdicts against the Czechs they might stop implementing such procedures,” Sawicki said.
